Throughout the story, I did recognize instances where Salman Rushdie used the book as a remix. I see it as him mixing ideas from other children’s stories and books and movies and combining it into one book. Genies, sacred water, and magical birds are surely not original ideas, which leads me to conclude that most things are remixes. Take hip-hop for example, where mixing music is done almost all of the time. We think these popular ideas are original when in fact, ideas have to originate somewhere, so they were more than likely based off of something. When many people have used it, it just becomes a general idea that everyone uses, but as we start that chain at the beginning, people will be accused of copying because it’s not a normal idea.
