Purpose Project Blog Post #1

January 10th, 2019

In English class recently, a project called the “Purpose Project” was assigned with very little instruction. When I first heard about this project, I was very unsure and uneasy because of the endless possibilities and the pressure of coming up with a solid idea. I didn’t know what was expected or where to even start, and I’m the type of person who needs specific instructions. Over the past few weeks, I have come up with a couple of potential ideas. After hearing one of the seniors talk about using the power of social media to spread positivity, I knew that I wanted to incorporate social media into my project somehow. Since the world politics has always interested me and I have always followed current news and have developed strong opinions, I have thought about spreading awareness of certain issues through social media. However, I then thought about how the mainstream media uses an agenda setting to put a spotlight on certain issues and disregard other issues. This led me to decide that I wanted to spread more awareness about issues that aren’t reported on as often as other issues, such as human trafficking, which is coming to rise with the debate on illegal immigration. Overall, I believe I have a pretty substantial idea that I can work with over the next couple weeks.
