The pieces that I wrote almost exactly a year ago do not accurately represent the person I became throughout the course of last year. I mentioned that my writing had structural issues, and that I missed many details while I was reading because I was going too quickly. However, my writing has become more structured because I allow time for thoughts to circle my head and then to organize them, and I am using a better variety of sentence types to hook my readers. I have become a more careful reader too; I am more attentive to detail because I notice how they play a role in what I’m reading. Learning to create a distraction-free environment that I could write and read in also has played a part in my ability to correct my weaknesses effectively. Now that I have overcome these imperfections, I am ready to continue to improve these skills while also finding other possible weaknesses along the way.

Getting feedback on my writing is something I’ve always been unsure about, mostly because I’ve always taken constructive criticism as pure criticism. However, I have recently realized that it is meant to help me learn and grow as a young student. I found that this specific feedback from Mr. Heidt opened my eyes to see that there are things I don’t notice about my own writing that others may notice and can help me with. The constructive criticism he gave me indicated that I need to go into more depth with transforming my thoughts into writing and also provide better and more explicit examples to support the metaphor I gave. My plans on revision include taking the advice Mr. Heidt gave on taking detailed thoughts and showing how they have existed in my mind in order to show how the metaphor of a messy basement is currently the state of my thinking.
